Company History

The history of my company, CNF Flooring, is certainly not too exciting, but the thousands of square feet of tile and wood I have installed to obtain it, has been an exciting and rewarding experience. The jobs are never quite the same, and new products continue to add ways of beatifying someone’s home or workplace.

In 1984, I graduated from high school, and as a backup plan to my budding musical career, I decided to attend  SUNY at Stony Brook. By January 1987, I realized college was impeding my growth as a musician, so I began to work full time in the more creative field of construction. The forces of reality were signaling the end of my musical career by 1991, however my construction career had now become focused on flooring, and I liked it! Finishing work, specifically tile and wood floor installations, definitely offered a more practical and creative future for me.

Working for other companies, and doing side jobs, taught me the skills and the business. On February 10, 1993, I acquired a Home Improvement Contractor License from Suffolk County.  I have been doing business as CNF Flooring ever since. Later, I also became licensed in Nassau County. The business has sent me to every corner of Long Island, and some parts of New York City, to perform installations. At times I  have employed as many as 15 men in the field, but in general, 4 or 5 men including myself are able to handle the work load while maintaining the quality of work I believe each customer deserves.

Experience has taught me an installation done correctly will last a lifetime. I have learned this by reading endless articles about the subject of installation, by learning from other people in the trade, by doing the work myself for almost 20 years, and believe it or not, by ripping out many existing jobs. I have learned more from dissecting the jobs I rip out, both good and bad, than anything else. Experience truly has been the best teacher.
